Free club management software for UK clubs, and how each is paid for

Software that costs a club nothing still has to be paid for. Some free platforms take a fee from every payment, some show ads to your members, and some stop being free at 20 or 50 members. Here’s what each free option really costs, and what you’d pay as the club grows.

What matters

What to check before you pick free software

Who pays for “free”

Most free platforms earn from payments. Check whether a fee comes off every payment on top of the card or Direct Debit processing, and whether the club or the member pays it.

Ads in front of your members

Several free plans show ads in the app your members and their children use. Check who sees them and what it costs to turn them off.

The member limit

Some plans are free only up to 20, 30 or 50 members. Find out what happens when you pass it: an automatic move to a paid tier, or a request to upgrade.

Payments on the free plan

Some free plans don’t take payments at all, or only through PayPal. If subs are the point, check payments work on the plan you’ll actually be on.

What growing costs

Price up the plan you’d need with twice the members, the app and payments switched on, and a year’s fees on what the club takes. That’s the real comparison.

Getting your data out

Free platforms change their terms and some close. Check you can export your members and payment history yourself before you rely on one.

In detail

Each platform in more detail

Dyno

Dyno is all-in-one club software: recurring memberships by card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, class and event booking, payments settled into your own bank account, fixtures with availability and team selection, and a native member app with a feed and chat. It suits clubs that have outgrown team messaging and now run memberships, classes and events in earnest.

Best for: Clubs that want no platform fee and an app their members talk in as well as pay in.

S

Spond

Spond is a free communication and scheduling app widely used by grassroots sports teams, with group messaging, availability polls and event organising, and membership payments through Spond Club. It is built around organising a team, not running a club as a business: it is not a class-booking or ticketing engine, and the free app is funded by fees on payments.

Best for: Coaches and volunteers organising a single team who only need scheduling and chat.

C

ClubSpark

ClubSpark is venue software from ClubSpark Group Ltd in London, offered free to LTA-registered tennis venues and used by other national sports bodies. It handles court booking, coaching, memberships and competitions through each venue’s web pages. It’s paid for by a ClubSpark fee taken from every payment on top of Stripe’s or GoCardless’s, members book in a separate Booker app that can’t yet book for juniors, and a branded app costs extra.

Best for: LTA-registered tennis venues that mainly need free court booking and will give up a fee on every payment for it.

P

Pitchero

Pitchero is club software for grassroots sports clubs, built around a club website with fixtures, results, league tables and news. Its Club app handles availability, team selection, messaging and match fees, and the paid packages add payments by card or Direct Debit. It belongs to the same group as Teamer, which closed and sent its users to Pitchero.

Best for: Clubs that put the public website first and the members’ app second.

H

Heja

Heja is a team app for the schedule, availability and chat, built for one team rather than a club. The free plan shows ads and allows one admin; payments in the app and more admins need Team Pro, and only Pro Max takes the ads away for members. Money collected in the app is paid out weekly to the admin’s own bank account.

Best for: A single team that wants the schedule, availability and chat free, and can live with ads.

S

SportEasy

SportEasy is a team and club app used by clubs in the UK and across Europe. Its free Basic plan is for one team of up to 30 members, with limited features and ad banners; Premium lifts both. There’s no free club plan: clubs get a month’s trial, then pay per member. In the UK, Stripe’s fee on collected payments falls on the team unless the admin passes it on.

Best for: One team of up to 30 that wants availability and line-ups free, with ads.

Reviewed October 2026 from SportEasy’s own website.

C

Clubworx

Clubworx is member management software for gyms, studios and martial arts schools. It’s free for up to 20 active members, without the member app, and moves you to the next paid tier when you pass a tier’s limit. It doesn’t take payments itself: you connect Stripe or GoCardless, signed up to separately, and the member app is a monthly add-on to the paid plans.

Best for: Very small gyms and schools, up to 20 members, that can do without a member app.

m

membermojo

membermojo is web-based membership software used by clubs, associations and charities across the UK, for applications, renewals, a member database, group email and registers. Members join and renew on its web pages, with no app mentioned. It’s free up to 50 members with PayPal or offline payments only; Stripe, the member shop and wallet cards need a paid plan, charged as one yearly fee by member count.

Best for: Small associations that need a membership list and renewals, not bookings or an app.

FAQ

Common questions

Is there free club management software in the UK?

Yes, several. Spond is free to use and funded by fees on payments. ClubSpark is free for LTA-registered venues, with a ClubSpark fee on every payment. Pitchero has a free package for one team, with ads and no payment processing. Heja and SportEasy have free team plans with ads, Clubworx is free for up to 20 active members and membermojo for up to 50. Every new club gets 30 days of Dyno Pro free, with no card needed, then plans start at £39 a month.

How do free club apps make their money?

In one of four ways. Spond and ClubSpark take a fee on payments made through them. Heja, SportEasy and Pitchero’s free package show ads. Clubworx and membermojo are free only up to a member limit. And most sell a paid plan or add-ons, such as Clubworx’s member app, for what the free plan leaves out.

Which free club software takes Direct Debit?

ClubSpark collects Direct Debit through GoCardless, with its fee on each payment. Clubworx connects to GoCardless or Stripe, which you sign up to separately. Pitchero takes it through GoCardless for subs, but only on a paid package. Dyno has Direct Debit built in, through Stripe, at 1% + 20p capped at £4 per payment.

Does Dyno have a free plan?

Not for new clubs. Dyno’s old Free plan, for clubs of up to 20 members, closed to new clubs on 24 September 2026, and clubs already on it keep it. Every new club now starts with 30 days of Pro, free, with no card needed: every Pro feature, no member limit and Pro’s staff seats. After that, plans start at £39 a month, with no platform fee.

When does free software stop being the cheapest option?

When the club takes real money through it. A platform fee is a share of everything members pay, so it grows with the club, while a flat monthly plan doesn’t. Add up a year’s subs and fees, work out each platform’s fee on top of processing, and compare that with a plan that has no platform fee.

Can I move from a free app to Dyno?

Yes. We move your members, memberships and data across for you, free, and your old system keeps collecting until each member has moved. Direct Debits held with GoCardless move across in a Bacs bulk change, with nothing for members to sign.
