The best grassroots football apps for UK clubs in 2026

Teamer closed on 5 October 2026, and plenty of UK teams are still deciding where to go. A grassroots club needs four things from its app: availability that chases for you, subs and match fees paid to the club, safe handling of juniors and a cost the committee can defend. Here’s how the main apps compare, and which suits whom.

What matters

What to look for in a grassroots football app

Availability that chases for you

Look for an app that asks every player before each fixture, lets a parent answer for their children, and chases whoever hasn’t replied, so the manager isn’t doing it by hand on a Thursday night.

Picking and announcing the side

Some apps stop at a yes or a no. Others let you pick from whoever said yes and tell the squad, including the player who isn’t in this week.

Subs and match fees into the club account

Check how money is collected (card, wallet, Direct Debit), whether it lands in the club’s own account or an individual’s, and whether a fee comes off each payment.

Juniors and their parents

Most grassroots clubs are mostly juniors. Look for one parent login that answers and pays for every child, coaches’ DBS records with reminders, and young players kept off public pages.

Fixtures from the league

Typing a season in by hand is a chore. Check whether fixtures import from your league or a spreadsheet, and where results and line-ups have to be submitted afterwards.

A way out if it ever closes

Teamer had no export. Before you commit, check that you can download your squad and your payment history yourself.

In detail

Each platform in more detail

Dyno

Dyno is club software built around the member app: memberships and subs by card or Direct Debit, training and class booking, events, a feed and chat, and match day through the Matchday bolt-on, from availability to the published side and the result. A club website on Growth and Pro is built from the same details, fixtures and results included.

Best for: Clubs that want training, juniors, subs and match day in the one app their members open every week.

S

Spond

Spond is a free communication and scheduling app widely used by grassroots sports teams, with group messaging, availability polls and event organising, and membership payments through Spond Club. It is built around organising a team, not running a club as a business: it is not a class-booking or ticketing engine, and the free app is funded by fees on payments.

Best for: Coaches and volunteers organising a single team who only need scheduling and chat.

P

Pitchero

Pitchero is club software for grassroots sports clubs, built around a club website with fixtures, results, league tables and news. Its Club app handles availability, team selection, messaging and match fees, and the paid packages add payments by card or Direct Debit. It belongs to the same group as Teamer, which closed and sent its users to Pitchero.

Best for: Clubs that put the public website first and the members’ app second.

T

TeamSnap

TeamSnap is team management software for youth sports, with rosters, schedules, availability and group messaging. It is built around teams rather than clubs, recurring membership dues are not its core job, and reviewers have pushed back on its 2023 repricing, on auto-renewal billing and on the ads that appear even around paid plans.

Best for: Individual teams that mainly need scheduling, availability and chat.

FA Matchday

Matchday is England Football’s free app for grassroots players, parents, managers and club officials, supported by Full-Time and the Club Portal. It’s built around the fixture rather than the club: players mark availability, the manager selects the squad and submits the line-up to Full-Time, and fees go through PayPal. Training bookings, memberships and safeguarding records aren’t on its public pages.

Best for: Affiliated teams that want availability and line-ups tied to Full-Time, free.

H

Heja

Heja is a team app for the schedule, availability and chat, and says it’s trusted by more than 500,000 teams. It’s built for one team rather than a club: the free plan carries ads and one admin, payments in the app need Team Pro, and the money is paid out weekly to the admin’s own bank account rather than a club account. Clubs with several teams on paid plans talk to its sales team.

Best for: Single teams that want a free, simple app for the schedule, availability and chat.

S

SportEasy

SportEasy is a team and club app used by clubs in the UK and across Europe. The free Basic plan is capped at 30 members, with limited features and ads; Premium lifts the cap and the ads, and clubs pay per member after a month’s free trial. In the UK, Stripe’s fee on collected payments falls on the team unless the admin passes it on.

Best for: Teams that want availability and line-ups free for a squad of up to 30, with stats on Premium.

FAQ

Common questions

What’s the best grassroots football app in the UK?

It depends on the size of the club. Spond, Heja and FA Matchday cover availability and chat for a single team, and Pitchero is built around the public website. For a club with several teams, juniors and subs to collect, Dyno is built for exactly that: availability, selection and results sit in the same app as training, subs and safeguarding.

Is there a free football team management app?

Yes. Spond is free to use and paid for by fees on payments. Heja and SportEasy have free plans with ads, SportEasy for a team of up to 30, and Pitchero has a free package for one team, with ads and no payment processing. FA Matchday is free too. Every new club gets 30 days of Dyno Pro free, with no card needed, then plans start at £39 a month.

Which football apps take subs by Direct Debit?

Of the apps here, Pitchero collects Direct Debit through GoCardless for recurring payments such as subs, though not match fees, and only on a paid package. Dyno collects it for memberships and subs through Stripe, at 1% + 20p capped at £4 per payment. Match fees go by card or wallet in both.

What happened to Teamer?

Teamer closed on Monday 5 October 2026. Its owners point its users to Pitchero, and Teamer says its team pages, accounts and stored data are no longer available. Our Teamer alternatives guide covers the move in more detail.

Does Dyno work with Full-Time?

Not directly. Dyno has no league sync: fixtures are entered, imported from a CSV or subscribed from your league’s iCal feed, and line-ups and results still go to the league the way they do now. Dyno runs the club side around them: training, subs, juniors and the squad’s chat.

Can a parent answer for more than one child?

Yes. With Matchday, a parent answers availability for all their children at once, and a family account lets one parent pay subs for every child from a single login.

How do I move my club to Dyno?

We move your members, memberships and data across for you, free, and your old system keeps collecting until each member has moved. Fixtures import from a spreadsheet or calendar file, up to 500 at a time, and every new club starts with 30 days of Pro, free, with no card needed.
